Snape frowned as he put the newspaper down. So much had happened this night – Harry Potter surviving, the Dark Lord’s disappearance, Sirius Black dead, James Potter essentially so. Nearly all of his plans for revenge were complete. So what was his next purpose? There was no true need to stay at Hogwarts as a teacher; no point in spying on Dumbledore as his lord had ordered. Still, it was a convenient cover and would protect him during the inevitable Death Eater trials set to begin in a few days.
He nodded to himself; he would stay and earn the old fool’s trust as planned. And if the Dark Lord had truly achieved immortality, and if he and the Potter spawn were connected by prophecy, then Snape would be ready, still loyal to his Master and in a position of power and influence.
